BOISE, Idaho The Boise State University wrestling team fell to No. 21 Cal Poly 20-15 in a Pacific-10 Conference dual, Thursday, at Bronco Gym.
The Broncos (1-1 overall, 1-1 Pac-10) traded decisions with the Mustangs (2-2, 2-0 Pac-10) for the first four matches, with wins coming from senior Tommy Owen (149 pounds) and freshman Luke Smith (165 pounds). Owen evened his season record at 3-3, while Smith improved to 17-8.
Freshman Nate Lee gave Boise State its first lead of the night at 9-6 with an 8-5 decision over Nick Hernandez at 174 pounds. Lee is now 14-8 on the season.
With the Mustangs up 14-9 two matches later, sophomore Andy Patrick was awarded a victory by default, putting the Broncos back in the lead at 15-14.
Boise State was unable to hold the lead, however, dropping the evening’s final two matches at 125 pounds and 133 pounds.
The Broncos hit the road again, traveling to Grand Prairie, Texas, for the Lone Star Duals, Jan. 6. They will also travel to the Oregon Classic at Redmond, Ore., Jan. 13, and to Laramie, Wyo., for a dual with the University of Wyoming, before returning home to continue the Pac-10 season against Cal State Fullerton, Jan. 26.
