Bronco Wrestling Inks High School Standout

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State head wrestling coach Greg Randall announced Monday (Jan. 3) that the Broncos have made an exciting edition to his program with high school standout Scotty Bacon signing a National Letter of Intent.

Bacon began his highly decorated high school career at Republic High School in Republic, Wash. He recently moved to Corona, Calif. to complete his senior year at Santiago High School. Bacon was a two-time Washington State Champion at Republic HS, while also wrestling to a runner-up finish at the state tournament. In 2010 he wrestled to the 145-pound state title, while also being named Academic State Champion at 145 pounds.

Bacon captured his first state title as a freshman, when he wrestled to the 130-pound championship. After moving up to 145 pounds in 2009 he concluded his sophomore campaign with a second-place finish at the state tournament.

Bacon also enjoyed a great deal of success both regionally and on the national level during his three years at Republic HS. Regionally, he won two Tri-State Tournament championships, competing against the top varsity wrestlers from Idaho, Washington, Montana and Oregon. Bacon captured the 135-pound title in 2008 and the 145-pound title in 2009. He was also named Outstanding Wrestler at the 2009 tournament.

Bacon has also shown his ability to compete with some of the nation's best high school wrestlers with top-eight finishes at several national tournaments. He placed eighth at 135 pounds at the NHSCA Sophomore National Championships in 2009. Bacon followed that up with a third-place finish at 145 pounds at the 2010 NHSCA Junior Nationals. In 2010 he also earned third-place finishes at both the Super 32 Tournament and Reno Tournament of Champions at 171 pounds.

Along with his success on the wrestling mat, Bacon was also a three year letter winner in football, baseball and wrestling at Republic HS. In 2010 he was named Panorama All-League in baseball.

Bacon will join the Bronco wrestling program in the fall of 2011.

Boise State returns to action this week when the Broncos travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the prestigious National Duals hosted Saturday-Sunday (Jan. 8-9) at the University of Northern Iowa.
