Broncos Place Three at Cliff Keen Invitational

Dec. 7, 2013

LAS VEGAS - The Boise State wrestling team boasted three placers at the 2013 Cliff Keen Invitational Saturday, finishing in 11th place as a team. Senior heavyweight J.T. Felix finished second, senior 197-pounder Cody Dixon finished third and redshirt senior Jake Swartz (184) finished sixth.

The Broncos' team finish was the highest amongst the five Pac-12 schools at the tournament.

Both Felix and Swartz began the day with semifinal matches. Felix defeated Ethan Hayes of Virginia 5-1 to advance to the finals, but Swartz, the No. 1 seed at 184 pounds, lost 4-2 (TB) to Gabriel Dean (No. 4) of Cornell.

Felix, the No. 2 seed, dropped his first match of the season in the championship of the tournament, falling to Michigan's Adam Coon, 7-5 (SV).

Swartz's semifinal loss was also his first of the season. He had a medical withdraw in the final two matches of the wrestleback, ultimately finishing sixth.

Dixon lost his opening match Friday, but won seven-straight in the wrestleback to finish third.

Four of the victories were notched Saturday, including decisions over Paul Rands of Navy (12-5) and Christopher Heald of Michigan (4-3). His final two opponents withdrew for medical reasons.

The Broncos registered 56 team points, finishing one point in front of Pac-12 rival Oregon State. CSU Bakersfield (40) finished 17th, Arizona State (21) finished 23rd and Cal Poly (21) finished tied for 24th.

Next up for Boise State is the Reno Tournament of Champions, Dec. 22.
