Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational: Day One

LAS VEGAS - Boise State wrestlers Jake Swartz and J.T. Felix reached the semifinals of the 2013 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, Friday.

Swartz, ranked No. 1 in the bracket at 184 pounds, earned a pair of decisions and a major decision en route to the semifinals, where he will face fourth-ranked Gabriel Dean of Cornell.

Felix, ranked No. 2 at 285 pounds, continued his dominant start to the season, registering a major decision, a pin and a decision to reach the semifinals. He will face Ethan Hays of Virginia Saturday morning in the semis.

Felix has five pins and two major decisions in eight matches this season.

Cody Dixon lost his opening match in sudden death overtime, but earned three-consecutive decisions in the wrestleback, and is still alive for Saturday. He will face Paul Rands of Navy in his opening match, Saturday.

The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m., and the finals are slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Seniors J.T. Felix (285) and Jake Swartz (184), ranked Nos. 2 and 1 in their respective weight classes, and redshirt sophomore Taylor West (165) each won their opening-round matches.

Swartz earned a 9-2 decision over Ethan Smith of Utah Valley, and Felix posted a major decision over CSU-Pueblo's Niko Bogojevic (10-1). Felix (6-0) and Swartz (3-0) are each undefeated on the season, and each is ranked in the top-10 nationally.

West defeated 13th-seeded Nicholas Visicaro of Rutgers (7-2), his first victory of the season.

Redshirt sophomores Travis Himmelman (141) and Chris Castillo (149), and junior Holden Packard (157) each won their first-round matches, but dropped to the wrestlebacks following second-round losses.

Sophomore Rami Haddadin (125) and senior Cody Dixon (197) each lost in the first round, and are awaiting their opening match in the wrestleback.
