Boise State Upset Bid of No. 15 Oregon State Falls Short
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - After rallying back to take a 16-15 lead over No. 15 Oregon State heading into the final bout of the night, the Boise State wrestling team's upset hopes came crashing down after a pin gave the Beavers a 21-16 win in the Border War.

Austin Morehead earned a first-period pin at the 2:30 mark after reversing a Scott Bacon takedown and following with the fall.

Boise State trailed 15-10 with three bouts left but senior George Ivanov used a seven-point third period to earn an 11-5 decision over No. 9 RJ Pena at 157 pounds. Ivanov was up 6-5 with less than 10 seconds left and tacked on five more points with a takedown and three-point near fall as time expired.

Holden Packard followed Ivanov with a dramatic finish of his own. Packard was outscored 3-0 in the third period before using a reversal with five seconds left to get the 7-6 decision and get the Bronco bench on its feet before the final bout.

The other Bronco wins came from No. 11 Jake Swartz, No. 15 Brian Owen and Rami Haddadin. Swartz started the match by making his presence known at 184 pounds. The Auburn, Wash., native easily handled No. 19 Ty Vinson in all three periods to log a 19-6 major decision, giving the Broncos a 4-0 lead early.

Owen and Haddadin had to battle their way to decisions, winning 5-3 and 11-9, respectively.

In what has potential to be a future NCAA final, No. 2 Jason Chamberlain was upset by No. 4 Scott Sakaguchi at 149 pounds, 3-2. Sakaguchi escaped in the third period to earn his third point of the bout and played defense to hold off Chamberlain the rest of the way.

Approximately 3,000 people packed the Central Valley High School gym to capacity to watch the two Pac-12 foes.

Boise State will get another shot at Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., Jan. 5. The Bronco wrestlers will be back in action Nov. 30 - Dec. 1 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
