Haddadin, Dewey Place at Cowboy Open
Nov. 7, 2015

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Rami Haddadin returned to where his 2014-15 season came to an end, making it all the way to the championship match of the Cowboy Open before suffering his first loss in a reboot of his junior season Saturday at War Memorial Fieldhouse.

Last year Haddadin opened the Cowboy Open with a pin at 133 pounds before pulling out of the tournament due to injury, and did not wrestle for the remainder of the season. This year he opened with another pin – in 2:53 over Wyoming’s Brock George – then won two more bouts to reach the finals at 125. Haddadin, now a redshirt junior, dropped a 6-2 decision in the championship match, his first loss of the season.

Haddadin was the Broncos’ primary starter at 125 pounds during his freshman and sophomore seasons, finishing runner-up at the Pac-12 Championships in 2014.

Of the Broncos’ nine wrestlers at the tournament, three reached the semifinals of his respective weight class. Joining Haddadin were redshirt junior Austin Dewey (174) and redshirt senior Taylor West (165).

Dewey joined Haddadin on the medal stand, winning his third-place bout via 2-1 decision (TB-2). He went 4-1 at the tournament, recording three decisions and a fall.

After posting two decisions and a fall to reach the semifinals, West dropped back-to-back decisions, the final loss coming in the consolation semifinals.

Boise State will travel to Ames, Iowa, next week for a doubleheader against Midland and Iowa State (Nov. 12). The team will remain in Ames for the Cyclone Open, Nov. 15.
