Bronco Wrestling Drops Season Opener

LARAMIE, Wyo – The Boise State wrestling team won four matches in a 26-12 defeat during its season opener at Wyoming, Thursday.

 

Redshirt junior Jake Swartz started the match off with a 6-1 decision against Shane Woods at 184 pounds. Swartz controlled the match, up 5-0 heading into the third period before allowing Woods to escape.

 

After capturing an early lead, the Broncos gave up 17 points in the next three bouts.

 

Brenton Beard would be the next Broncos to earn points. Beard, a freshman from Liberty lake, Wash., won in his Boise State debut with an 8-4 decision over Wyoming’s Jake Eitzen.

Boise State would go on to drop two-consecutive bouts before George Ivanov and Taylor West won gritty battles at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively. Ivanov used a riding time point to earn a 4-3 decision while West shut out Jace Jensen, 3-0.

 

The Broncos will be back in action, Saturday, staying in Laramie to compete in the Cowboy Open.
