Wrestling Loses Border War to Oregon State

March 8, 2014

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State wrestling team closed its regular-season schedule for the 2013-14 season Saturday, falling in the Border War to Oregon State in front of 1,263 fans at Taco Bell Arena, 34-6.

The dual was initially scheduled for Feb. 7, but was cancelled due to travel restrictions for the Beavers caused by weather. The Broncos rested many of their starters for the dual, and moved a couple wrestlers up a weight class.

Included was Cody Dixon, the Broncos' primary starter at 197 pounds. Dixon wrestled at heavyweight, defeating Mick Dougharity via decision, 6-5.

Also victorious for Boise State was Travis Himmelman, who earned a 6-4 decision over Jared Reis at 149 pounds.

With the victory, the Beavers regained possession of the Border Axe for just the second time since its inception in 2009.

Boise State honored seniors Ben DeMeulle, J.T. Felix, Brian Owen and Jake Swartz prior to the dual.

Swartz and Felix have already punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., March 20-22. The Broncos will find out later this week if anyone else will receive an at-large bid to the national tournament.
