Wrestlers Fall to Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – After picking up a dual match victory on Friday night (Jan. 31) at home against the University of Northern Colorado (27-10), the Boise State University wrestling team made a quick trip to Utah Valley University but came up short in its effort falling to the Wolverines, 23-18.

The Broncos jumped out to a 12-0 lead winning their first three matches.  Chris Castillo and Holden Packard posted decisions at 149 and 165 pounds, respectively, while Steven Hernandez won by pin two minutes and 40 seconds into his match at 157 pounds.

But Utah Valley came storming back to win six of the seven remaining matches to secure its five point victory.

Boise State’s lone individual match win came at heavyweight where J.T. Felix pinned Richard Larsen at the 1:05 mark of the first period.  It was the second straight victory by fall for Felix who pinned Northern Colorado opponent the night before just one minute into the match.  Felix is ranked No. 20 by InterMat with an overall record of 20-3 this season.

The Broncos return home for its next match this Friday (Feb. 7) against Oregon State University in a Pac-12 Conference contest.  The match will be in Bronco Gym starting at 7 p.m.
