Broncos Fall at Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Boise State wrestling team, ranked tied for 21st-nationally, fell 21-15 to Arizona State in a Pacific-12 Conference dual, Friday.

After dropping the opening match, Boise State (2-5, 2-3 Pac-12) strung together three-consecutive decisions to take a 9-3 advantage. Ben DeMeulle tied the dual with a 4-2 victory over Cord Coronado at 133 pounds, and then Brian Owen gave the Broncos the lead with a 5-0 decision over Matt Kraus at 141.

Owen, a three-time NCAA Tournament qualifier, was wrestling for the first time this season.

Chris Castillo extended the Broncos' advantage with a 5-3 overtime victory over Preston McCalmon at 149.

But then the Sun Devils (6-5, 1-0 Pac-12) made their comeback.

ASU won four-consecutive matches, including a major decision at 157, a pin at 174 and a technical fall at 184.

With the Sun Devils leading 21-9, Cody Dixon earned a 7-3 victory over Josh Dasilveria at 197, but the dual was now out of reach.

Sixth-ranked heavyweight J.T. Felix closed the dual with a 6-4 victory over Chace Eskam, providing the final margin.

Boise State will return home Sunday to host Lehigh, ranked tied for 24th-nationally, at 11:30 a.m. at Bronco Gym.
