Pin Barrage Sends Broncos to Dual Victory

GREELEY, Colo. - The Boise State wrestling team earned victories at seven weight classes en route to a 32-15 over Northern Colorado at Bank of Colorado Arena, Friday. Included were four bonus-point wins, three of which coming via fall.

The Broncos improved to 2-2 on the season.

The dual opened with falls in each of the first four matches. Northern Colorado (1-2) got on the board at heavyweight, but Boise State responded with consecutive pins at 125, 133 and 141 pounds.

Carson Kuhn (125) registered his first victory as a Bronco, pinning Trey Andrews in 2:40. Michael Cook (133) followed with a pin of his own, sticking Abe Fox in 6:37 to notch his first dual victory of the season. And then seventh-ranked Geordan Martinez (141) registered his sixth fall of the season, pinning Ben Polkowske in 4:17.

The run on pins stopped at 149 pounds, but the Broncos' Travis Himmelman added more bonus points with a 17-2 technical fall over the Bears' Nick Adams.

Following intermission, Boise State closed the dual by winning three of five matches via decision: Steven Hernandez (157) defeated Beau Roberts, 11-6; Austin Dewey (174) downed Josh Van Tine, 7-1; and 19th-ranked Cody Dixon dropped Trent Noon, 7-3.

The Broncos are on the road again next week, traveling to South Dakota State (Jan. 16) and North Dakota State (Jan. 18).
