Broncos Drop Dual to NDSU
Jan. 8, 2017
The loss concludes a two-match road trip that saw the Broncos (1-3, 0-0 Pac-12) go winless.
Boise State went down 17-0 with a pin at 285 pounds, a forfeit at 125 pounds and technical fall at 133 pounds before Rami Haddadin lost a 3-1 decision.
Haddadin fell behind 3-0 in the second period of his 141 pound match against Taylor Nein, but rode Nein the remainder of the match to earn a point for riding time, nearly turning Nein over for back points.
Green fell behind, 4-1, early to No. 16 ranked Clay Ream, but rallied back with an escape, two takedowns and a point for riding time to win a 7-5 decision. It was the Broncos first win of the dual.
Green, a redshirt freshman, is 2-0 against ranked opponents this season.
At 165 pounds, Boise State got a bonus point victory from Romero, who used a takedown in the waning seconds of the match to put him over the necessary one minute of riding time to win a 14-5 major decision over Nick Mergen. Romero is 2-1 in dual matches this season.
Austin Dewey nearly got a takedown as time expired in his 174 pound match against Dylan Urbach, but the referee signaled no points. Boise State coaches challenged the call but the ruling was upheld.
The Broncos will return to the road for a dual against Northern Colorado, Jan. 15, before returning home to face CSU Bakersfield in their conference opener, Jan. 21.
Northern Colorado also went winless against South Dakota State and North Dakota State this past weekend.
