The Boise State wrestling team faced its first true road test of the season, dropping a 37-3 dual to No. 20 South Dakota State (5-2, 1-0 Big 12), Friday night at Frost Arena.

The Broncos (1-2, 0-0 Pac-12) won only one match on the evening.

Gabe Gonzalez edged out Alex Macki at heavyweight with two takedowns in the final minute to give him the 10-9 decision and the Broncos their only win of the night. The win was Gonzalez’s first career dual win, and improves his overall record to 6-10.

At 165 pounds, Demetrius Romero got a takedown in the waning seconds of his match against Luke Zilverberg to tie the match and send it to overtime. Zilverberg would get a takedown in the first sudden-death period to win a 5-3 decision.

The road trip will conclude for Boise State at North Dakota State, Sunday at 1 p.m. (MT). The Bison (7-1, 2-1 Big 12) are coming off a win against Northern Colorado, Friday.
