BOISE, Idaho (12/8/2014) - Boise State’s head men’s tennis coach Greg Patton announced the addition of two prep standouts Tillman Haynes (Dallas, Texas) and Greg Wischer (Grand Forks, N.D.) for the 2015-16 campaign. Haynes has signed a National Letter of Intent, while Wischer will walk-on to the team.

“I am taking a page out of the Bronco football and basketball recruiting books by trying to recruit the top players out of the state of Texas,” said Patton. “I struck oil in Texas this year by getting Tillman Haynes who was ranked third in Texas which is one of the hotbeds in tennis. He is a lean and tall player who will definitely contribute significantly to our program here at Boise State.”

Tillman Haynes comes to Boise State ranked No. 74 nationally by TennisRecruiting.com which calls him a four-star recruit. Haynes is one of the top juniors in Texas ranked third in the state for his age group. On the national scene this summer Haynes won the back draw at the United State Tennis Association’s National Selection Tournament in Honnolulu. He has also tallied victories over the No. 20 and No. 47 ranked players in the nation.  He has gone 31-17 in 2014 going 2-4 versus “Blue-Chip” recruits, 2-4 against “Five-Star” recruits and 13-7 versus “Four Star.”

“Greg Wischer is an All-American kid from North Dakota, he is the type of guy who should be on the cover of Wheaties because everything he touches turns to gold,” commented Patton. “He is definitely one of the top players ever to come out of the state of North Dakota in tennis. I have watched him at national tournaments and the guy has lights out unbelievable talent and potential. If he had grown up in southern California he would probably have been one the top recruits. When I saw him at the national tournament, I said this guy is  a golden nugget and under the radar, I have to get him to come to Boise State and I am super excited that he has decided to become a Bronco!”

Greg Wischer is currently a senior at Red River High School in Grand Forks, N.D., where he has been a standout in the prep ranks winning two state doubles titles (2010-11) and two in singles during his junior and senior campaigns. His high school has won 203 straight matches and 17-consecutive state championships.  Wischer has lost only one match in the last two seasons and was named North Dakota’s Senior Athlete of the Year. Wischer has been ranked as high as 188th nationally by TennisRecruiting.com and is currently No. 244, No. 7 in the Plains Region and No. 1 in North Dakota. Wischer’s record in USTA events during 2014 is 31-16 going 10-5 versus “Three Star” recruits and 12-0 against “Two Stars.”
