Shields Set To Compete at ITA National Indoor Championships

What’s happening:
After winning the ITA Mountain Region Championships on Oct. 19, senior Clancy Shields will take off to the University of Virginia to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championships. Shields will be one of 32 singles players that earned a bid into the tournament.

Tournament schedule:
The championships will begin on Thursday with the doubles competition at 10 a.m. with the first round of singles play to follow immediately. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will be played on Friday afternoon. The semifinals will be played on Saturday with the championship match to be played on Sunday.

This is Shields’ third consecutive trip to the National Indoor Championships. Last year, Shields advanced into the second round of the tournament by upsetting No.30 Andre Daescu (Oklahoma) in three sets. He was defeated by No. 1 Somdev Devvarman (Virginia) in the second round. He also competed in the doubles competition with his brother, Luke Shields. The duo pulled off a first round upset, but fell in the second round to the No. 2 ranked doubles team in the country. This year, Clancy Shields will enter the tournament ranked as the No. 32 singles player in the nation.
