Junior Clancy Shields was the first of the two Broncos to play on Friday, playing in the main draw second round of 16. The NCAA No. 38 pre-season ranked Clancy Shields faced No. 19 rated Daniel Vallverdu of Miami, dropping a well fought 7-6 (4), 6-4 match. Clancy finished with a 1-1 record over his two days of the tournament.
Older brother Luke Shields played Friday afternoon in the first round of the consolation bracket. The No. 5 ranked senior took on No. 2 ranked Steve Moneke of Ohio State falling in a 6-2, 6-4 decision, leaving him with a 0-2 record in the tournament.
