LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Boise State sophomore Abe Hewko has advanced to the Flight Two semifinals of the Larry Easley Memorial Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The three Broncos competing at the tournament went a combined 2-3 in singles on the opening day.

Hewko received a first round bye then rallied from a set down in the quarterfinals to defeat Mitch Maroscher from Grand Canyon in a third set tiebreaker 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7). The win advances the Palm Desert, Calif., native into Saturday’s semifinal round against an opponent yet to be determined.

Brian Foley and Lewis Roskilly are both competing in Flight One. Foley split a pair of matches Friday defeating Romain Boudaroua of Arizona in straight sets 7-6 (3), 6-0. The Henderson, Nev., native then lost in the quarterfinals to Oregon’s Daniel Sardu in three sets 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2.

The third Bronco in Las Vegas is freshman Lewis Roskilly from Stevenage, England. The Bronco youngster fell in both matches Friday losing 6-4, 6-2 versus Grand Canyon’s Philip Kuehnen in the first round. That was followed later in the day with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat in the consolation draw against Harry Busby of Mesa Community College.

The tournament continues Saturday morning in singles and doubles. The Broncos’ Hewko and Roskilly will begin their doubles competition in the morning.
