Broncos Still Alive after Day Three of Region Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Boise State men's tennis team managed to remain alive in singles competition at the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., Friday (Oct. 22), as Filipp Pogostkin made his way to the main draw round of 16, while four other Broncos also advanced in consolation action.

Pogostkin opened his day in the round of 32 as the only Boise State player still vying for the singles title. He would punch his ticket into the round of 16 by beating Hugo Ramadier (Northern Arizona), 6-4, 1-1 (inj. retired). With the win Pogostkin is now set to meet No. 3 overall seed Yannick Weihs (Denver) Saturday morning.

Following his big singles win Pogostkin would team up with Scott Sears to face No. 1 Conor Berg and Ben Dunbar (New Mexico) in the quarterfinal round of main draw doubles competition. The Bronco duo gave the tournament's top seeded team all it could handle but fell short in the end, dropping from doubles competition with an 8-6 loss to Berg and Dunbar.

Boise State also saw four players advance in consolation single action as Michael Gilliland, Freddy Walsh, Scott Sears and Erik Sheldon would all earn back draw wins on Friday. Attached are scores from all of Boise State's matches on Friday at the ITA Mountain Region Championships. Tournament action will continue on Saturday, and will wrap up Sunday.
