Boise State Awarded Right to Host ITA Mountain Region Team Playoff

LAS VEGAS, Nev. The Boise State University men’s tennis team captured the team title at the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. which were held Oct. 18-22. For their excellent team performance, the Broncos earned the first place finish and the right to host a playoff between the top four teams in region for a spot at the National Team Indoor Championships, Feb. 16-19 in Chicago


The regional playoff will be held Jan. 20 at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho, and will feature Mountain West Conference teams BYU, New Mexico and UNLV.


In the finals of the singles competition, Clancy Shields battled Utah’s Zach Ganger to a third set but he could not overcome his opponent and fell, 6-3, 3-6 and 6-2.


“It was a valiant effort,” head coach Greg Patton said. “Clancy was a warrior out there today,”


By reaching the finals C. Shields qualified to join his brother Luke at the National Individual Indoor Championships, Nov. 2, in Columbus, Ohio.
