LAS VEGAS-Boise State men's tennis earned four spots in the singles main draw round of 16 at the USTA//ITA Mountain Region Championships, Thursday, at the Darling Tennis Center. Andy Bettles, Damian Hume, James Meredith and Garrett Patton all picked up two more wins in singles to stay in contention for the region championship. Two Bronco doubles pairs remain alive in the main draw, which also has been whittled down to 16.

Bettles, Hume and Meredith rolled in straight sets while Patton battled his way through two close matches to join his teammates. Hume was especially overpowering, notching a 6-0, 6-3 win in his first outing and a 6-2, 6-1 win against a seeded opponent in the round of 32.

Meredith and Hume stayed on course as the No. 2-seeded doubles team with an 8-4 win to move into the round of 16. The eighth-seeded pairing of Bettles and Scott Sears also won in impressive fashion, advancing to the round of 16 with an 8-2 victory. Patton and Nathan Sereke saw their run in the main draw end with a tight 9-8 loss at the hands of Felipe Frattini and Marc Westgate from New Mexico State.

Sears fell in singles in the round of 32 to nationally-ranked Spencer Smith of BYU, 6-3, 6-3. Sereke bowed out of the main draw in the round of 64. Sereke rebounded with a win against Niklas Brandes from Montana State in the consolation ladder to ensure himself another match. Sereke and Brandes met again in an elimination setting, this time in doubles. The Bronco sophomore and his partner, Patton, ended the Bobcat pair's consolation run.

Also in singles consolation action, Aidan Reid posted a 6-0, 6-4 win to advance to the third round.

Matches resume Friday, with doubles beginning at 9 a.m. (PT) and singles at 11:30 a.m. (PT), at the Darling Tennis Center.
