C. Shields Advances to ITA Regional Championship

LAS VEGAS, Nev. In the semi-finals of the ITA Mountain Region Championship, Boise State University tennis player Clancy Shields defeated the tournament’s number 4 seed, Max Jones of New Mexico to advance to the finals on Sunday.


After dropping the first set, 3-6, to the 90th ranked player in the nation, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Shields responded with a 6-4 win in the second set and another 6-4 win in the third set to earn the victory over Jones.


With the victory, Shields qualifies for the National Individual Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 25.


In the semi-finals of the doubles competition, Luke Shields and Piotr Dilaj lost to Brigham Young’s Dominik Kaufhold and James Ludlow, 8-5. Blake Boswell and Eric Roberson also fell in the semi-finals. The duo from Boise State dropped their match to Jones and his partner Kamil Pajkowski for New Mexico, 8-6.


The ITA Mountain Region Championship will be held Sunday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nev., and will feature the Broncos’ 7th seeded C. Shields versus the 6 seed from Utah, Zach Granger.
