LAS VEGAS, Nev. Boise State University men’s tennis player Clancy Shields advanced in the ITA Mountain Region Championships when Denver’s Adam Holmstrom (No. 2) defaulted to Shields in the Round of 8. Shields, the tournament’s seventh seeded player, will now match up against number 4 seed, Max Jones of New Mexico in the semi-finals, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. PT.
The Broncos also advanced two doubles teams to the semi-finals. The duo of Luke Shields and Piotr Dilaj earned two victories Friday to advance. The first came against Kienle and Smole of Denver, 8-3, and then Shields and Dilaj defeated Denver’s Holmstrom and Perrson by default.
Blake Boswell and Eric Roberson is the other team from Boise State which qualified for the semi-finals. In the Round of 16 they beat the third seed Cronican and Tomlin of Air Force, 8-1, then in the quarterfinals they earned victory over Utah’s Ganger and Smits (No. 4), 8-5.
In the Round of 16 Clancy Shields and Steve Robertson defeated Hunter and Wronski of UNLV, 8-3, before they fell to the number one seeded Jones and Pajkowski in a tiebreaker, 9-7.
Robertson also competed in the singles competition but he lost in the quarterfinals to Zach Ganger of Utah.
