LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Boise State men’s tennis saw the doubles team of Garrett Patton and Brendan McClain sweep a pair of matches on Friday to reach Saturday’s semifinals at the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional in Las Vegas. Patton also reached today’s singles quarterfinals where he fell in two sets.

Patton and McClain opened the morning against Northern Colorado’s team of Ben Gendron and Austin Mayo putting the Bears away 8-5. That victory moved the Boise State duo into the quarterfinals Friday afternoon where they downed BYU’s Francis Sargeant and Andrey Goryachkov, also by an 8-5 score.

The Patton and McClain doubles team is the only remaining Boise State representation alive at Las Vegas. They will face Mountain West rivals James Hignett and Bart Van Leijsen from New Mexico at 11 a.m. (Mountain) Saturday in the semifinal round.

Patton was the only Broncos to advance out of the round of 16 on Thursday. This afternoon the senior from Boise played ninth-seeded Alex Gasson from the University of Denver. Patton went down to Gasson in straight sets 7-6 (1), 6-4.

The doubles team of Toby Mitchell and Brian Foley split their matches on Friday to reach the quarterfinal round. Mitchell and Foley tallied at 8-6 victory over Idaho’s Odon Barta and Mark Kovacs to advance to the quarterfinals.  They then lost to New Mexico’s Roldolfo Jauregui and Hayden Sabatka by the score of 8-6.
