Boise State Falls from Utah Invitational Friday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Boise State men's tennis team concluded its weekend at the University of Utah Invitational in Salt Lake City, Utah, Friday (Oct. 15) morning, as the Broncos fell in the quarterfinals of both singles and doubles to end their run at the tournament.

Junior Freddy Walsh made his way to the singles quarterfinal round after winning both of his matches on Thursday. Walsh opened the weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Lenny Whiting of Utah State to advance to the round of 16. Next he would beat Matt Cowley of Utah, 6-4, 6-2, to secure his spot in the round of eight. Walsh's run came to an end there, however, as he fell to Evan Urbina of BYU, 6-0, 6-2, to wrap up his weekend.

In doubles Boise State also placed a pair in the quarterfinal round as Scott Sears and Erik Sheldon teamed up to compete for the  Broncos. Sears and Sheldon won their opening round match on Thursday with an 8-3 victory against Nate Ballam and Whiting (USU) to advance to the quarterfinal round. The Boise State duo would battle hard in the quarterfinals but fell just short of moving on in the tournament with an 8-5 loss to Bryan Marchant and Sven Poslusny of Utah State.

The Broncos will now turn their attention to the 2010 ITA Mountain Region Championships next week (Oct. 20-24) in Las Vegas, Nev.
