SANTA CLARA, Calif. The team of Piotr Dilaj and Eric Roberson captured the doubles title for the Boise State University men’s tennis team Sunday at the Bronco Classic, hosted by Santa Clara University.
Dilaj and Roberson first had to get by University of California, Santa Barbara’s Jack Hui and Philip Therp in the semifinals, but they made quick work of the pair ousting them 8-1 to advance.
In the finals the team from Boise State met up with John Petit and Geoff Chizever of California. Regulation was not enough time as the match went to a tie breaker to determine the winner but the Broncos prevailed with a 9-8 (7-3) victory to earn the doubles title.
Roberson attempted to duplicate his success from the doubles competition in singles play but could not overcome Nevada’s Guillaume Tonelli in the semifinals and dropped the match, 6-2 and 6-2.
Jamaal Hepburn earned the Broncos’ lone victory in singles on Sunday as he defeated Byran Pybas of UC Santa Barbara in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3.
