Moyer Advances to Dar Walters Consolation Title Match

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State freshman Danny Moyer advanced to the D flight consolation title match Sunday morning after defeating Lewis-Clark State’s Sonam Phuntsok on Saturday. It was an up and down day for the Broncos on Saturday at the Dar Walters Tennis Classic in Boise as they went 2-3 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.  
Moyer was the big highlight for the team as he rallied from one set down to win his consolation semifinal match 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to reach Sunday’s title match against Whitman College’s Phillip Locklear. After opening the tournament with a loss on Friday, the Kalamazoo, Mich., native has responded with two consecutive victories in his debut weekend.
Junior Brian Foley played two matches on Saturday earning a split. He opened the day with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory over Utah’s Santiago Sierra in the quarterfinals of the A flight. Unfortunately, he was upset in the semifinals by Portland’s Reid Delaubenfels in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Foley will play Thomasz Soltyka from Montana in a consolation match Sunday morning. 
Abe Hewko advanced to Saturday’s C flight semifinals with a pair of victories on Friday. However, the sophomore fell in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 Saturday afternoon to Utah’s Johan Jonhagen. Like Foley, Hewko will play a consolation match Sunday facing Utah State’s Sebastain Schneider.
Freshman Lewis Roskilly had a consolation match on Saturday against Stefan Cooper from Weber State. The young Bronco was forced to retire after the first set do to injury. His status for Sunday’s round is uncertain and is a match time decision. 
In doubles the Broncos split two matches today. In the Orange flight Foley and Roskilly defeated Utah ‘s Santiago Sierra and Jimmy Swiggart 8-4 to advance to the semifinals on Sunday.
The second doubles team of Danny Moyer and Abe Hewko went down in a tie-break to Idaho State’s duo of Bjorn Scheepbouwer and Krzysztof Stempien in the quarterfinal round of the Blue flight. 
The final day of the Dar Walters Tennis Classic starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Appleton Tennis Center on Boise State’s campus and at Julia Davis Park across the river from the university.
