TULSA, Oklahoma (10/2/2007) - Boise State’s Kean Feeder won his second qualifying match in singles at the Polo Ralph Lauren All American Tennis Championships, while the Shields brothers, Luke and Clancy, swept their two matches today as they attempt to qualify for the doubles main draw. If Feeder and the Shields’ win there matches tomorrow they will qualify for the main draws that start Thursday.

Yesterday, Feeder was taken to three sets and a third set tie breaker by Arizona’s Bruno Alcala to advance to today’s second round qualifier. Things went smoother for the Portland, Ore. native this afternoon as he defeated Arizona State’s Matt Brooklyn, ranked 71st nationally, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Feeder now faces North Carolina’s Ben Carlotti, ranked 56th, at 9:00 a.m. (Central) with the winner advancing to the main draw. If Feeder wins he will join teammates Luke and Clancy Shields in the main event that starts on Thursday. The Shields were both seeded in the main draw based on last year’s results and their preseason rankings, Luke is 5th nationally while Clancy is 38th.

The Shields doubles team, currently ranked 30th nationally, swept through both of their matches today in the first two rounds of qualifying with relative ease. They started this morning with a 8-2 victory over Ohio State’s pair of Matt Allare and Balazs Novak. The first round win advanced them to a second round match late this afternoon where they defeated USC’s Jason McNaughton and Jaak Poldama by the score of 8-3. They are now set to meet South Alabama’s team of Jake Baker and Marek Sramek tomorrow afternoon with the winners going on to the main draw. Neither of the doubles teams they defeated today where nationally ranked, however, South Alabama’s Baker and Sramek are ranked 56th.

These are the first official matches for all three Broncos this fall. The threesome are expected to battle it out for Boise State’s top three singles positions this coming winter when team competition begins.
