Broncos Host Dar Walters Boise State Fall Classic

Junior Abe Hewko will lead the Broncos' group of four at the Dar Walters Boise State Fall Classic this weekend in Boise.

Thursday, Oct. 1

  • Location(s): at Appleton Tennis Center (all day) and Julia Davis Park (all day)
  • Singles: First matches start at 9:30 a.m. / Last start at approximately 2:30 p.m.
  • Doubles: First Matches start at 2:30 p.m. / Last start at approximately 5:30 p.m.
  • Parking: parking will be in the west Albertsons Stadium parking lot.

Friday, Oct. 2

  • Location(s): at Appleton Tennis Center (all day), Julia Davis Park (all day) and Boas Indoor Tennis Center (9 a.m. -12 p.m. only)
  • Singles: First matches start at 9 a.m. / Last start at 1:30 p.m.
  • Doubles: First Matches start at 1:30 p.m. / Last start at 4:30 p.m.
  • Parking: parking will be in the west Albertsons Stadium parking lot.

Saturday, Oct. 3

  • Location(s): at Appleton Tennis Center (all day) and Julia Davis Park (9 a.m. -10:30 a.m. only)
  • Singles: First matches start at 9 a.m. / Last start at 12 p.m.
  • Doubles: First Matches start at 1:30 p.m. / Last start at 3 p.m.
  • Parking: parking will be in the Liberal Arts parking lot.

Sunday, Oct. 4

  • Location(s): at Appleton Tennis Center (all day)
  • Singles: First matches start at 9:30 a.m. / Last start at 11 a.m.
  • Doubles: First Matches start at 1 p.m. / Last start at 2 p.m.
  • Parking: parking will be in the west Albertsons Stadium parking lot.

Bad Weather: If it rains all matches will be moved to Boas Indoor Tennis Center while the weather persists.


WHAT IS HAPPENING

  • Boise State men’s tennis is home for the annual Dar Walters Boise State Fall Classic this weekend at the Appleton Tennis Center, Julia Davis Park and Boas Indoor Tennis Center. 
  • The competition begins on Thursday at 9 a.m. (all times are Mountain) and runs throughout the weekend concluding Sunday afternoon around 4 p.m.
  • Admission for this event is free.


THE TOURNAMENT FIELD

  • Boise State is the host of the 11-team tournament.
  • Visiting Teams: Abilene Christian, Air Force, Army, Idaho State, Lewis-Clark State, Montana, Portland State, Seattle, Utah State and Weber State. 


REPRESENTING BOISE STATE

  • The Broncos will have four members of the squad participating in tournament.
  • In singles Boise State will have senior Thomas Tenreiro seeded No. 1 of the 70 competitors, senior Brian Foley seeded fifth, junior Abe Hewko who is seeded 12th and freshman Danny Moyer
  • In doubles those four will pair up with Foley and Moyer teaming up as the fifth-seeded duo, while Hewko and Tenreiro are seeded sixth.

  • Abe Hewko (BSU) vs. Anirudh Satishchandra (Montana) at 1 p.m.; at Appleton Tennis Center
  • Thomas Tenreiro (BSU) vs. Tom Witteveen (Montana) at 2:30 p.m.; at Appleton Tennis Center
  • Danny Moper (BSU) vs. Luis Lopez (Utah State) at 2:30 p.m.; at Appleton Tennis Center
  • Brian Foley (BSU) vs. Will Cochrane (Portland State) at 2:30 p.m.; at Appleton Tennis Center

Thursday’s first doubles matches for Boise State

  • Foley/Moyer (BSU) vs. Dylan Ihmels/Sam Serrano (Utah State) at 5:30 p.m.; at Appleton Tennis Center
  • Hewko/Tenreiro (BSU) vs. Harrison McCormick/Grant Riechmann (Army) at 4 p.m.; at Appleton Tennis Center


THE BRONCOS

  • Abe Hewko: This is the first event of the fall for Hewko. The junior went 19-14 in singles and 15-17 in doubles during 2014-15.
  • Thomas Tenreiro: First match for the native of Miami, Fla., the senior went 15-21 in singles last season and 19-9 in doubles.
  • Brian Foley: This will be the second competition of the fall for the senior from Henderson, Nev. ... Foley went 0-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles with Lewis Roskilly at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational at Midland, Texas, Sept. 18-20 ... he went 18-22 in singles as a junior in 2014-15 and 18-20 in doubles play.
  • Danny Moyer: This will be his first tournament of the fall semester for the sophomore from Kalamazoo, Mich. ... Moyer was 5-8 in singles and 3-6 in doubles as a freshman in 2014-15.
