Meredith and Hume Compete at One-Plus-One

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Boise State men's tennis players James Meredith and Damian Hume traveled east this past weekend, Sept. 24-26, to represent the Broncos at the University of Virginia One-Plus-One Tournament in Charlottesville, Va.

Meredith and Hume both competed in singles, while also teaming up in Flight A-1 of the doubles tournament. Meredith and Hume played their way to a consolation championship in doubles after dropping their opening round match. The Bronco duo rebounded from the early loss by beating Sander Gille and Jesus Bandres (East Tennessee State), 8-4, and Andy Gauthier and Jeremy Feldman (Cornell), 8-2, to capture the consolation title.

In singles, Hume enjoyed a strong weekend as he played to a 2-1 record in Flight A-4. Hume opened the tournament with an upset win over No. 93 ranked Grega Teraz (ETSU), 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals. Hume kept things rolling by next beating Matteo Fago (Tennessee), 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. His run in singles competition would end there, however, as a 7-5, 7-6 semifinals loss to Alex Domijan of Virginia wrapped up his weekend.

Meredith also opened the weekend victorious, as he beat William Parker of North Carolina, 6-3, 6-2, in Flight A-3 competition. No. 40 ranked Meredith would stumble in the quarterfinals, though, suffering a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 loss to Julen Uriguen (Virginia) to end his run at the tournament.
