Strong Showing For the Broncos in Texas

WACO, Texas- All three members of the Boise State men’s tennis team captured victories Friday, at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas.

 

Luke Shields, who entered the season ranked 33, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, paced the way for the Broncos with two victories in singles play.  The first came against Mikhail Pavlov of Texas A&M Corpus Christi 3-6, 7-5 and 6-4.  Then he defeated Texas A&M’s Matt Bain, 6-4 and 6-2.  Next L. Shields will face the 23rd ranked Mickal Kokta of Baylor.  The match will take place at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

 

In doubles play, Clancy Shields and Steve Robertson vanquished Rice’s Ben Harknett and Toby Schiel, 8-4 to advance to the next round but were forced to default because of health related issues.

 

C. Shields also earned a victory in singles play against Chris Biro of TCU, 6-3 and 6-4.  In the following round, C. Shields was defeated by the 22nd ranked Martin Sayer of Radford, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 and 7-3 in the third tie-breaker.
