PROVO, Utah The Boise State University men’s tennis team opened their season Thursday, sending two individuals to compete in the Utah Fall Tennis Classic.
Eric Roberson, a junior from Sacramento, Calif., was the tournament’s second seed and received a bye in the opening round. In the second round, Roberson blanked Weber State’s Mike Banks, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the Round of 16.
Fellow junior Jamaal Hepburn lost his first round match in three sets to Utah State’s Fernando Gallegos, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. Hepburn, a Bradenton, Fla., native, received a bye in the first round of the back draw.
The Utah Fall Classic is an open tournament, thus is not exclusive to collegiate players. However, student-athletes from BYU, Montana State, Utah State, and Weber State joined the Broncos at the event.
