BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State men’s tennis team has been active this summer competing in regional open tournaments. Leading the way has been senior Garrett Patton who has played in four tournaments, reaching three doubles championship matches including winning the Pacific Northwest mixed doubles title this past weekend in Tacoma, Wash. Junior Thomas Tenreiro has played in two events this summer reaching the singles title match at the Salem Summer Classic.

Patton has been the most active among the six returning Broncos competing in four United States Tennis Association (USTA) events during the month of July. This past weekend in Tacoma, Wash., at the Pacific Northwest Championships Patton teamed up with Haley Gay to win the mixed doubles championship.

Patton, a Boise native, opened the summer with the RBC Wealth Management Open in Eugene, Ore., over the fourth of July weekend where he advanced to the men’s open doubles championship with Oren Motevassel before falling 7-6, 6-2. He also reached the singles quarterfinals at the event.

The next weekend, July 10-13, at the GPTC Oregon Tennis Championship in Beaverton, Ore., Patton reached both the men’s doubles championship and the men’s singles semifinals. In doubles he paired with Brett Van Linge to advance to the championship match where they lost to former Bronco Kean Feeder (2007-09) and Travis Parrott 7-5, 6-0.

The weekend of July 17-20 saw three Broncos Patton, Tenreiro and Brian Foley compete at the Salem Summer Classic in Salem, Ore. Tenreiro advanced to the men’s singles title match before falling 6-3, 7-5 to Joel Kusnierz. Tenriero and Foley teamed up for doubles winning their first match before falling in the quarterfinal round. Patton reached the men’s doubles semifinals with Devin Nerenberg and the quarterfinals in singles. Foley reached the round of 16 in singles before falling in three-sets.

This past week, July 21-27, at the Pacific Northwest Championships all three competed in the event. In addition to winning the mixed doubles title, Patton was in the men’s open doubles competition where he reached the quarterfinals with Joao Gauer, followed by a round of 16 appearance in singles. Tenreiro and Foley competed only in singles where Tenreiro lost his opening match in the round of 32, while Foley went 1-1 to reach the round of 16.
