Patton Adds Jack Heslin to Roster

BOISE, Idaho - Greg Patton, Boise State's head men's tennis coach, has announced the addition of Jack Heslin (Auckland, New Zealand) to the men's tennis roster for the 2016-17 campaign. Heslin is a transfer from the University of Tennessee where he played his freshman season last year.

"As you know we love the Kiwis at Boise State, all the best Kiwis are coming to Boise," said Patton. "The three most important cities to the Kiwis are Auckland, Wellington and Boise. He is coming to a new home where he will fit in and the community will love to watch him. I am excited he decided to transfer here. Jack has great experience playing for Tennessee as a member of their starting lineup and played top competition weekly. He will bring alot to our program and we look forward to his arrival in August."

As a freshman at Tennessee, Heslin recorded a singles record of 17-17 overall and a doubles mark of 17-16. During spring duals he went 11-12 in singles and 8-11 on court six, his primary position with the Volunteers. In doubles, Heslin went 12-12 during the duals season and was 7-11 playing at No. 2 doubles.

During the 2015 fall season at UT, Heslin won six singles and five doubles matches. He closed the semester by winning five of his final seven contests. Heslin reached the singles quarterfinals in the second flight of the SEC Fall Classic.

The 6-foot-3 sophomore-to-be is originally from Auckland, New Zealand. At Boise State Heslin will join fellow countryman Kyle Butters who was the 2016 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and ITA Mountain Region Rookie of the Year.

Heslin's youth career included winning one International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior singles and two doubles tournament titles with three runners-up finishes. As a youth player he was ranked as high as third in the New Zealand ITF Junior rankings and 337 in the world. He won the New Zealand U12 national doubles championship and was runner-up at the U16 national doubles tournament. On the national side, Heslin has twice represented his country as a member of the New Zealand Junior National Team.

He played club ball for the Caro Bowl Tennis Team during New Zealand's premier club tennis competition. Heslin served as team captain of Sacred Heart College (high school) Premier Tennis Team from 2011 through 2014. He was also named the 2014 ASB Auckland College Sport Young Sports person of the Year.
