BOISE, Idaho  - Boise State men’s tennis moved up to its highest ranking of the year at 55 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association national team poll which was released Thursday morning. With the NCAA national tournament being completed this past weekend the ITA released the final team poll of the year. The Broncos moved up three spots from No. 58 to its top ranking of the year at No. 55. The top 64 ranking assures Boise State a spot in next January’s prestigious ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

“I am so excited that we not only stayed in the top 64, but we moved up to 55 which guarantees us a place in next year’s ITA Kick-Off Weekend,” coach Greg Patton said. “We struggled a bit this year but we finish with the highest rank of the season for us which is fantastic. It’s not as high as we wanted to be, but it shows how much we improved and gives us a solid place to start next year. One of our main goals every year is to finish strong, improve with each match. We did that again this season finishing in the top 64 and as the top ranked team in our league. I couldn’t be happier.”

Boise State was one of three teams ranked from the Mountain West Conference and the highest of the trio jumping past regular season champion Utah State which came in at No. 60 and New Mexico who finished at No. 69. The Broncos were also the second-highest ranked team behind No. 47 Denver for the ITA’s Mountain Region out of six schools.

Never one to shy away from a challenge, coach Patton saw his team take on 12 schools who finished in the final ITA Top 75 going 4-8 in those contests. The Boise State opponents who finished in the rankings include: No. 14 Texas A&M (lost), No. 17 South Florida (lost), No. 33 Virginia Tech (lost), No. 34 Oregon (lost), No. 44 UC Santa Barbara (won), No. 56 Indiana (won), No. 60 Utah State (lost), No. 61 Brigham Young (lost), No. 62 Cal Poly (won), No. 64 Auburn (lost), No. 69 New Mexico (won) and No. 72 Utah (lost).
