Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. After dropping the first set 5-7, Shields rallied to claim a dominating 6-2 win in the second set to force a decisive third set. Shields held off Daescu 7-5 in the final set to claim the 2-1 match victory and the right to advance into tomorrow’s second round.

The victory improves Shields’, ranked 83rd nationally, to 26-14 overall on the year. The junior from Grand Junction, Colo. who plays the number two singles position for Boise State now moves onto Thursday’s round of 32. Up next for Clancy is the defending national champion and the current number one ranked player in the University of Virginia’s Somdev Devvarman.
