Shields Brothers Earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association Nods

SKILLMAN, N.J. Although the Boise State men’s tennis team has completed their season as a team, two players Clancy Shields and Luke Shields will continue on to the NCAA Individual Championships in Tulsa, Okla. May 21-26. The two brothers have also earned post-season nods from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association with junior Clancy Shields earning the “ITA Player to Watch” Award and senior Luke Shields earning a regional nomination for the “ITA/John Van Nostrand Memorial Award”.

Clancy Shields, the Mountain Region award winner, finished as one of eight regional award recipients for the “ITA Player to Watch” Award. The award goes to a player who has an outstanding season and is expected to perform at a high level the rest of their career. The award’s criterion also includes a player’s sportsmanship and character. The regional award winners will advance as finalist for the national award.

Luke Shields has been named as the Mountain Region nominee for the “ITA/John Van Nostrand Memorial Award” which is a national award honoring one of the nation’s top players. This season’s five nominees are not regional award winners, but rather nominees put forth by their respective regional committees for the national award consideration.

The siblings hailing from Grand Junction, Colo. will team to compete in the NCAA Individual Championship doubles draw while Clancy Shields will also compete in the singles draw in Tulsa.

National winners for both awards will be announced May 20th. To view the ITA’s full awards list go to:
