Boise State Men's Tennis Headed to NCAA First and Second Rounds

BOISE, Idaho The No. 25-ranked Boise State men’s tennis team will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to participate in the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis First and Second Rounds on May 8-9. The Broncos earned the No. 2 seed in their first and second round bracket with the host, University of Alabama, holding the top seed after finishing the regular season ranked No. 14 in the Campbell’s/ITA National Team Rankings. Boise State will face No. 57-ranked Middle Tennessee State in their first round match slated for 1:00 p.m. (MST) on Friday, May 8 at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.

 

This marks the 14th appearance by the Bronco men in the NCAA tournament and the 12th under head coach Greg Patton. The best finish ever by the Broncos came in the 1997 season when they tied for fifth-place in the 64-team pool. During the 2008 and 2007 seasons, Boise State advanced to the first rounds while their most recent second round appearance came during the 2006 season.

 

Boise State holds a 22-8 record on the season and has earned 13 wins over nationally ranked teams. The Broncos have faced Alabama once this season, falling 4-0 to the Tide at the Blue Gray Classic on March 21.

 

On the other side of the first round bracket held in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide will host No. 59-ranked Furman University in a 4:00 p.m. (MST) match on Friday, May 8, following immediately after the Boise State/Middle Tennessee State match.

 

Furman University enters the weekend as the two-time defending Southern Conference champions and features a 22-7 record. Alabama holds a 20-7 record on the season while Middle Tennessee State holds a 16-9 record.

 

The winner of the Boise State/Middle Tennessee and Alabama/Furman matches will meet Saturday, May 9 at 1:00 p.m. (MST) in the second round.
