Shields, Feeder and Meredith Earn Automatic Bids to NCAA Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships

BOISE, Idaho One day after learning they were headed to their fifth consecutive NCAA First and Second Round Championship matches, the No. 25-ranked Boise State men’s tennis team learned they have additional NCAA qualifiers in the singles and doubles competitions for the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Tournament in College Station, Texas.

 

The Broncos’ No. 24-ranked Clancy Shields will be the team’s sole representative in the singles tournament, while No. 43-ranked Kean Feeder and James Meredith will represent Boise State in the doubles tournament. Both Shields and the duo of Feeder and Meredith earned automatic bids. All three Broncos earned automatic bids by ranking as the highest WAC representative in their respective categories. The trip will mark the third NCAA individual bid for Shields while Feeder and Meredith will make their first appearances.

 

The NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Subcommittee selected 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 20-25 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 14-19). Texas A&M University will serve as host.

All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
