Toby Mitchell Honored by MW

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State senior Toby Mitchell has been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office this afternoon. Mitchell recorded the match clinching points in both of Boise State’s conference victories last week at Air Force and New Mexico.  This is the first MW Player of the Week honor in the career of the senior from Somerset, England, and the second straight for Boise State joining Kyle Butters who earned the honor last week.

Mitchell’s Highlights from April 1-5

  • Toby Mitchell led Boise State to a weekend road sweep last week by recording the match clinching singles victory in a 6-1 win at Air Force on April 1 and a 4-1 victory at No. 70 New Mexico on April 3.
  • Mitchell went 2-0 at No. 3 singles earning a pair of three-set victories and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles with the loss coming in a tiebreaker.
  • At Air Force Mitchell rallied from one set down after falling in a tiebreaker in the opening frame to defeat Max Olson in three sets 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the team victory for the Broncos at 4-1.
  • In Boise State’s victory at then-No. 70 New Mexico, Mitchell turned in his second straight match clinching win at No. 3 singles beating the Lobos’ Jorge Escutia in three sets 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-4.
  • Mitchell and doubles partner Kyle Butters split in their two contests at No. 1 doubles over the weekend falling in a tiebreaker at Air Force 6-7(3), then  regrouped at New Mexico to knock off the Lobos’ 77th-ranked tandem of Hayden Sabatka and Rodolfo Jauregui in a tight 7-5 affair.
