Pogostkin Named Verizon WAC Player of the Week

BOISE, Idaho - The Western Athletic Conference announced Tuesday (April 5) that Boise State sophomore Filipp Pogostkin was named the Verizon Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 28 - April 3 to give Pogostkin the first conference player of the week honor of his career.

This marks the third conference player of the week selection for the Boise State men's tennis team this season. Jeff Mullen (Jan. 12-18) and Scott Sears (Jan. 31-Feb. 6) both won the award earlier this spring.

Pogostkin, a Bellevue, Wash. native, earned the nomination after going undefeated in the Broncos two matches on April 2. He compiled a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles and also went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles as Boise State swept Montana State and Weber State in a pair of non-conference duals. Pogostkin won both his singles matches in straight sets to improve to 14-14 on the year. In doubles, he and partner Andy Bettles posted wins in both matches to move their win streak to 10 straight.

The No. 51 ranked Broncos (13-10 overall, 1-1 WAC) are enjoying a week and a half break to prepare for a grueling road trip to California to face a trio of nationally ranked opponents. Boise State will meet No. 9 Stanford, April 14 (Thursday), before facing No. 44 Fresno State on April 16 (Saturday) and No. 56 Hawai'i on April 17 (Sunday).
