No. 35 Boise State Men's Tennis Coasts Into Boise State Spring Break Invitational Finals with Two 4-0 Wins On Friday.

BOISE, Idaho The No. 35-ranked Boise State men’s tennis team had a perfect 2-0 record on Friday in the first day of the Boise State Spring Break Invitational. The Broncos (13-10) first upended Georgia State, 4-0, in the first round of play before doing the same to Yale in the semifinal round.

Boise State was able to win their first match of the day by only playing singles against Georgia State. Bronco Brent Werbeck earned a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Anze Cevka at the No. 2 singles to get the Broncos’ their first point of the day. Paul Koenke followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat over William Adeimy at the No. 4 spot. Eric Roberson picked up point number three for the Broncos when he downed Trenton Spinks 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles spot while Blake Boswell finished off the win for Boise State winning 6-1, 6-4 over Ross Hopper at the No. 6 spot.

With the win the Broncos advanced to the main draw semifinals where they faced Yale University on Friday evening. Winning with just as much confidence as their earlier match, the Broncos downed Yale, 4-0. They started by winning the doubles point when Steve Robertson and Clancy Shields topped Calvin Bennett and Josh Ledermann, 8-4 in the No. 1 match. Boswell teamed with Nick Gourley to defeat Jeff Dawson and Matt Schimmel, 8-1, clinching the doubles point for the Broncos. In singles play No. 60-ranked Clancy Shields downed Jeff Dawson 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 match to put Boise State up 2-0 in the team standings. Roberson defeated Tom Santoro in the No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-1 while Boswell earned another win at the No. 6 spot, downing Ledermann, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the team victory.

The Broncos will continue play on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the Boise State Appleton Tennis Center. No. 35-ranked Boise State will take on the only other ranked tournament participant, No. 65-ranked Wichita State, in the main draw final match tomorrow.
