MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The No. 71 Boise State men's tennis team bounced back from a day-one loss at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. with a dominating 4-0 win over Middle Tennessee State to improve to 1-1 on the weekend.
The Broncos managed to improve their overall record to 7-6 (1-1 Western Athletic Conference) by winning the doubles point and the first three singles matches of the dual. Boise State scored a win at No. 2 doubles as Vicente Joli and Filipp Pogostkin beat Victor Melo and Matthew Langley, 8-3. Jeff Mullen and Harry Skinner secured the doubles point next with an 8-6 win over Richard Cowden and Shaun Waters at No. 3.
Boise State kept things rolling in singles competition with wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6. No. 41 ranked James Meredith scored Boise State's first singles point with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Peers at No. 1. He was followed by Alex Bothe, who beat Alex McCann, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5. Cristian Hodel was able to bring home the sweep for the Broncos with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kyle Wishing at No. 6.
With the win Boise State advances in the consolation bracket of the tournament, which continues on Saturday. The Broncos will face the winner of Harvard and Penn State; a dual that was being played Friday night. Visit bluegraytennis.com for updates and live results throughout the weekend.
