Broncos Dominate the Vandals, 7-0

BOISE, Idaho The No. 27 Boise State University men’s tennis team swept Idaho, 7-0, Saturday, at the Appleton Tennis Center as the team improved its record to 13-4. The Broncos played only two of their top five singles players en route to sweeping their third team in four matches.


After Boise State won two of three matches to capture the doubles point Friday, Mar. 9, the team came out early Saturday morning and in dominating fashion collected all six singles points including four via straight set victory.


Jamaal Hepburn, playing in his first dual match of the season and defeated Joel Trudel in a super tiebreaker to win the match 3-6, 6-4 and 10-8 to colllect the match point for Boise State.


Playing the No. 1 position for the second consecutive day, Piotr Dilaj extended his winning streak to five matches with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 victory over Stanislov Glukhav.


Steve Robertson got the straight set victories started for Boise State as he vanquished John Hieb 6-1 and 6-1 to extend his team-leading winning streak to six matches, while improving to 9-1 in singles during dual match play.


Brent Werbeck also collected a singles point as he defeated Paulo Miranda 6-2 and 6-0 at the No. 5 position.


Stanley Sarapanich improved to 3-1 in singles as he defeated Tim Huynh 6-3 and 6-1.


Eric Roberson then closed out No. 3 singles, over Rob Chalkley, to capture the final match point for the Broncos, 6-4 and 6-3.


In doubles, Boswell and Roberson defeated Huynh and Miranda 8-1. Dilaj and Hepburn won the other doubles match over Glukhav and Trudel, 8-3, to secure the doubles point for Boise State.
