Broncos Sweep the Tigers

BOISE, Idaho The No. 27 Boise State University men’s tennis team defeated Pacific 7-0, Friday, at the Appleton Tennis Center.


Boise State improved to 12-4 with the victory and extended its winning streak to four matches.


The match began with the Broncos sweeping the doubles point.


Playing No. 1 for the first time this season, Eric Roberson and Blake Boswell defeated Moritz Starke and Vegard Veskimagi, 8-6, to improve their doubles record to 8-3 in dual match play. The duo also collected their 11th doubles victory to lead the team


Stanley Sarapanich and Steve Robertson teamed up for the second time in as many weeks, this time vanquishing Alan Kelly and Pedro Toledo, 8-4, to improve to 2-0 as a tandem.


Brent Werbeck earned just his second doubles match of the season as he paired with Piotr Dilaj to earn the 8-4 victory over Robert Price and Ahad Ebrahim.


The match then shifted to singles where Dilaj engaged in an epic struggle against Starke at the No. 1 position. After the two players split the opening sets 7-6 and 6-7, the match was forced to be decided by a super tiebreaker. Battling in the rain and in the eyes of the loyal spectators, Dilaj prevailed valiantly 10-4 to collect the precious match point for Boise State.


The Broncos then managed to earn straight set victories in the following five positions to clinch the match.


Boswell dropped Veskimagi 6-1 and 6-1 to improve to 14-10 on the season.


Robertson, played No. 3 singles for the first time this season and earned the victory over Kelly 6-2 and 6-2.


Roberson earned 12 straight points against Toledo to take the match 6-0 and 6-0.


Sarapanich earned his second singles victory of the season with a 6-2 and 6-2 win over Oliphant.


Werbeck capped off the match for Boise State by knocking off Price 6-1 and 6-1 to improve his record to 12-9 on the year.


Boise State matched up against Idaho in doubles Friday night and will compete its match against the Vandals Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Following the Idaho match, Boise State will take on New Mexico at 1:30 p.m.
