What’s Happening - The No. 19 ranked Boise State University men’s tennis team will host the Bronco Round Robin Mar. 2-4 at Appleton Tennis Center, weather permitting. The Broncos will face No. 73 Utah at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2. The following day Boise State will rematch against Penn at 1:30 p.m. The Broncos originally defeated Penn at the ITA National Team Indoors, 4-1, to close out the tournament. If the weather does not allow the matches to be place outdoors they will be moved to the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex.

The Team - The Broncos are 9-4 on the season in dual match play after defeating five opponents ranked in the top 75 nationally, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, including No. 9 Stanford at Palo Alto, Calif., 5-1. Boise State’s other marquee victories came against No. 49 San Diego, 4-3, No. 50 San Diego State, 4-3, No. 64 UNLV, 4-0, No. 67 Penn, 4-1, No. 73, UC Santa Barbara, 6-1, No. 75, William and Mary, and a 5-0 victory of New Mexico in the Championship match of the ITA Mountain Regional. The only losses this season have come against four teams ranked in the top 20 nationally (No. 3, 4, 13, and 16).

The Players The Broncos feature seven of the top 20 players in the mountain region including number one ranked Luke Shields.

Luke Shields enters the match ranked seventh nationally and first is the mountain region according to the ITA. L. Shields (10-2) has been a stabilizing force atop the Boise State lineup. He was named Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29, after capturing two victories in the number one position on the Broncos undefeated road trip to the Bay Area.

Clancy Shields, ranked 80th nationally and fourth in the region, is 7-3 in dual matches including wins at Stanford, San Diego State and San Diego. C. Shields was named WAC Tennis Player of the Week for Jan. 22, after going 2-0 in the ITA Mountain Region Team Playoff including capturing the decisive match point on a diving volley to advance the team to the National Team Indoor Championships.

Six other members of the team contributed with singles victories in dual match play including Blake Boswell (No. 9 in the ITA Mountain Region, 2-5), Eric Roberson (No. 13, 2-8), Dilaj (No. 14, 6-4), Brent Werbeck (No. 16, 4-4), Steve Robertson (No. 17, 5-1), and Stanley Sarapanich (1-1).
