Shields Receives USTA Sportsmanship Award

CHICAGO Boise State University men’s tennis player, Luke Shields received the United States Tennis Association (UTSA) Sportsmanship Award, Sunday, at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago.


The junior, from Grand Junction, Colo., was chosen for the award by the 16 participating coaches for displaying outstanding sportsmanship and exemplifying to spirit of college tennis during the course of the tournament and throughout his career.


Shields is ranked No. 15 nationally, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and plays No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for Boise State. The Broncos dropped their first two matches of the weekend but responded Sunday with a victory over Penn. Shields went 1-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles at the National Team Indoor Championship.


The award was presented by a member of the USTA Board of Directors, Jon Vegosen of Chicago.
