No. 35 Boise State Struggles at No. 20 Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. - The No. 35 ranked Boise State men's tennis team failed to get back on the winning track, Saturday (Feb. 12) afternoon, as the Broncos dropped their third consecutive dual with a 6-1 loss to No. 20 Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. to fall to 2-5 overall this season.

Saturday marked the sixth consecutive dual against a top 30 opponent for Boise State, which is in the middle of a grueling stretch of eight consecutive duals against ranked teams. Prior to their dual at Pepperdine (6-2) the Broncos were just 1-4 against ranked opponents. Things wouldn't get any better for Boise State on Saturday as the men managed just one doubles win and one singles win in the dual.

Pepperdine secured an early 1-0 advantage over the Broncos winning at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. Damian Hume and Scott Sears did provide one highlight for Boise State in closing out doubles competition however, as the Bronco duo scored an 8-4 upset victory over No. 35 ranked Finn Tearney and Hugh Clarke at No. 1.

The Waves quickly showed why they are undefeated (3-0) at home this season, racing to four straight singles wins to slam the door shut on a Boise State comeback. Jeff Mullen scored the only singles win of the day for the Broncos as he beat Alfredo Moreno, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6, at No. 4 singles to secure the first team point of the day for Boise State.

Pepperdine would score the final win of the day at No. 1 singles though, to push the final team score to 6-1.

Saturday kicked off a three dual road trip through California for the Broncos, which concludes with a pair of duals against two more ranked opponents. The west coast swing continues on Sunday (Feb. 13) as Boise State heads to Los Angeles, Calif. to meet No. 6 UCLA. The Broncos will then travel to San Diego, Calif. to face off against No. 53 San Diego State on Tuesday (Feb. 15). Both duals are scheduled for 1 p.m. (PST).
