Boise State sophomore Thomas Tenreiro has been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Jan. 29 through Feb. 2. This is his first such honor and the first for Boise State this season.

The sophomore from Miami, Fla., (Institute of Caracas) went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play to help lead Boise State to a pair of road victories last week, 4-3 over Conference foe New Mexico on Jan. 31, and 5-2 against Arizona on Feb. 2.

Playing in the No. 3 singles slot, Tenreiro secured the match-clinching point against the Lobos with a win over Rodolfo Jauregui in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Tenreiro defeated Arizona’s Kieren Thompson in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

He and partner Andy Bettles clinched the doubles point for Boise State in the New Mexico match with a 6-5 (5) win over the Lobos’ James Hignett and Samir Iftikhar at the No. 2 position. Tenreiro and Bettles also took down Arizona’s Naoki Takeda and Sumeet Shinda, 6-3.
