No. 25 BSU Men's Tennis Heads South to Face No. 69 BYU and No. 68 Utah

BOISE, Idaho Boise State’s men’s tennis team will head to Utah this weekend to face Brigham Young University and the University of Utah in their second of six weeks on the road. The Broncos (5-1), who dropped three spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s national poll this week, will look rebound from their close 4-3 loss to No. 22 Texas A&M on Sunday, January 27.

The No. 25 Broncos will first head to Provo, Utah to face the No. 69 Cougars (3-0) of BYU in a 5 p.m. match on Friday, February 1. The match, held at the BYU Indoor Tennis Center, will be the fourth for the Cougars this spring season. BYU is currently undefeated after wins over Weber State (4-3), Utah State (5-2) and Eastern Washington (4-3).

On Saturday, February 2, BSU will take on No. 68 Utah (2-1) at 5 p.m. in Salt Lake City Utah. The Utes hosted a double-header last Saturday where they earned a 6-1 win over Weber State and a perfect 7-0 victory over Utah State. Their single loss of the season came from No. 53 New Mexico at the Mountain Regional Playoffs held two weeks ago in Boise.

The Broncos are led by the Shields brothers, Clancy and Luke, who boast ITA singles rankings of No. 19 and No. 47, respectively. Two additional Broncos sit within the nation’s Top-70, No. 65 Eric Roberson and No. 69 Brent Werbeck.

In doubles play, Roberson is joined by Paul Koenke to make up the No. 41 doubles team in the nation.
