Luke Shields Named WAC Tennis Player of the Week

Boise State University men's tennis player Luke Shields has been named Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29.

In a match-up of All-Americans, Shields, a junior from Grand Junction, Colo. (West River Academy/Grand Junction HS), defeated Stanford's Matt Bruch 3-6, 6-1 and 6-3 to propel No. 25 Boise State over the ninth-ranked team in the country. Shields then followed it up by defeating Santa Clara's Jan Macek the following day 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1, to lead Boise State to two road victories as the team remained perfect at 4-0. Shields also captured a doubles victory with Stanley Sarapanich as the pair ousted Santa Clara's Blane Shields and Kevin McQuaid, 9-8 (8-6).
